Stamped Tea Towels
Stamped tea towels are a great gift for tea lover’s and make a wonderful replacement for napkins at a tea party. They can be used as a tea cozy to keep your tea pot warm. They are so easy to make and will impress your guests.
To make your own decorative stamped tea towels, you’ll need a few supplies:
- tea towels (I found a great deal at my local Walmart where they were just $1 each or 5 for $4)
- non porous flat surface for rolling out the paint
- paint for fabric
- fabric medium (this will keep your paint thin and washable)
- sponge roller
- assorted rubber stamps
This project can also be done with tea-stained tea towels.
If you want to make your own color, mix your paint colors first then add the fabric medium in a 50/50 combination with the paint.
Roll your paint on a nonporous flat surface and use the sponge roller to apply it to the stamp. This will allow your color to apply more evenly to the stamp instead of placing the stamp directly into the paint.
Apply your stamp by gently pressing it on the towel in your desired pattern. Re-apply a light coat of paint before each time you stamp with the sponge roller for even color distribution.
Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours, then seal it by ironing on low setting. Place a thin fabric (like a sheet) between the stamped tea towel and the iron to prevent direct contact.
Now you have your own custom stamped tea towels that are completely washable. I recommend a delicate setting on your washer with cold water to preserve the beauty of your towels.
